Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were alerted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
